Namdi, the chef, is a former monk from Tibet, who as a young man joined thousands of others to flee over the Himalayan Mountains into India during the invasion. He does not say much about this, but simply explains ‘it was very difficult’. Today, Tibetan Memories café at the Good Heart in Frome, has an ethos of ‘exploring kindness’ and encourages customers to ‘pay it forward’ by buying tickets for meals, so that those less fortunate are able to enjoy hot, wholesome and nutritious food. In the brutally cold weeks of the recent winter, many of Frome’s homeless were heartened by the generosity and kindness of ‘strangers’ who enabled them to weather the winter hardship.
