Create an ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’ on locally sourced stone with Nicholas Durnan, artist, Buddhist and master stone carver.
This mindful workshop will include teaching on the meaning of Om Mani Padme Hum and stone carving techniques. All tools and materials provided.
Nick Durnan was a contributor to our festival ‘Exploring the Heart of the Celtic Spirit’ in 2015. He is a Somerset stone carver and sculptor who has worked at Wells, Salisbury and Exeter cathedrals and has exhibited his own work widely.
Nick’s sculpture explores the underlying geometry in the beauty of natural form and celebrates the tactile and translucent qualities of alabaster. Nick also finds inspiration in the endless variety of geometric designs and foliage carvings of the Romanesque and Early English period displayed in medieval churches and cathedrals.
Nick has been a Buddhist for over 20 years and was commissioned to carve a life size sculpture of the reclining Buddha for the Jamyang Centre London Community Garden.
